HROP INTRODUCTION TO GAME DEVELOPMENT
In this class, students will study the key components of well-designed computer games and put these principles into practice. Students will learn to use a software application called Game Maker which will provide them with a hands-on approach to learning the basics of game development. Exploration will occur in three main areas of game development: programming, art, and design. Students will learn basic programming principles such as variables, conditionals, and loops. We will also cover design principles such as digital storytelling, animation, graphic design, and sound design. Students will learn principles of game art including the creation of sprites, backgrounds, and animation. This course is articulated with the College of the Redwoods Introduction to Game Design and will prepare students for more advanced topics in this burgeoning profession.
HROP INTERMEDIATE GAME DEVELOPMENT
This intermediate level course builds on the basic concepts of Game Development learned in the first semester. Students will learn more powerful approaches to computer programming, advanced imaging and animation techniques, and hone their project management skills. Students gain practice working on a group project, much like that of professional game developers. Completed projects will be submitted to a public forum for review by other game developers worldwide.
