The new garden area for the school has been plowed and is getting spruced up.If you are interested in helping with the garden please sign up below, or call Tara at 444-2228. If you can make it to help out, bring water and gloves!

In preparing the garden, Randy Wilson and Keith Hamm brought in the big equipment and used a tractor to rototill the ground. A big thanks to these great guys!

Please watch this page and the Newsletter for future garden news and wishes. The garden area is in the cow pasture just north of the school (great soil).

The garden project has been nearly three years in the making.
Here is a history of progress so far:
The City of Arcata has signed a three-year lease for approximately 1/3 of an acre in the field just north of the school (on the other side of the willows from the school, next to the bike path).
Humboldt State University, in consultation with the Wiyot Tribe, conducted an archeological survey of the site. There were no cultural concerns with the project.
Jacoby Creek School and Siskiyou Land Conservancy secured a $2,500 start-up grant from the California Instructional School Garden Program. The grant paid for the archeological survey and will help cover some initial costs of the garden.
Donations of garden materials and a sigh are in the works (though we’re going to want your help on this … see below).
Several JCS parents are already helping to create the garden.

JCS parent Tara Cooper (Ohana Organics) has agreed to coordinate garden activities.
JCS parent Keith Hamm (Living Earth Landscapes) has created a beautiful conceptual design for a permaculture garden.
JCS parent Dan Johnson (Danco) has agreed to help with initial preparation of the soil.
JCS parent Greg King (Siskiyou Land Conservancy) will oversee the garden project in cooperation with SLC and Jacoby Creek School.
