EUREKA -- Russell Taylor took one of the first plunges in the newly reopened swimming pool at Eureka High on Thursday.

He obviously liked how it felt.

Taylor, from Triple Junction High, won the boys 200-yard individual medley and 100 butterfly events with marks that qualify him for the upcoming North Coast Section meet.

With three NCS qualifying marks, Taylor now has a decision to make -- a swimmer can compete in only two individual events in the NCS.

A former student at Arcata, Taylor swam the 200 IM in 1:59.73 and the100 butterfly in 54.43 to qualify for the NCS. He earlier had qualified in the 100 breaststroke.

Galen Moxon, Shanti Sattler, Molly Hoch and Andew Johnson of Eureka and Sarah Stauffer and Andy Malone of Arcata also won two events each.

Moxon won the boys 100 breaststroke (1:28.28) and 50 freestyle (26.14), Sattler the 200 freestyle (2:11.70) and 100 butterfly (1:08.18), Hoch the 200 IM (2:27.05) and 100 breaststroke (1:14.41) and Johnson the 200 freestyle (2:01.86) and 100 freestyle (56.13).

For Arcata, which won the overall team title, Malone was victorious in the the girls 50 freestyle (28.93) and 100 freestyle (1:05.57) events and Stauffer took the 500 freestyle (6:03.30) and 100 backstroke (1:06.05).
