Welcome to Sunny Brae Middle School Sunny Brae Middle School is located in the rural community of Arcata, CA. We are the only true middle school (grades 6-8) in the Arcata area. We believe that middle school creates a natural bridge between elementary school and high school. The staff at SBMS is committed to providing a comprehensive program in a safe environment that serves the academic, physical, social and emotional needs of our students as they move from childhood to adolescence. Working as a team with parents and the community, we will assist students in developing the necessary skills to become responsible, independent, and self-sufficient learners in a global community. Over the last five years, SBMS has received several awards. After 6 years of high test scores and continual growth, SBMS received a National Blue Ribbon Award in the fall of 2009. Only 313 schools nationwide were honored with this award. In addition to this, we have been recognized twice as an Honor School and twice as a Title 1 High Achievement School.
